BARRINGTON   STABLES

Natural Care Boarding at Barrington Stables
Our facility focuses on natural horse care for all of our equine friends. We find that it is highly beneficial to the mental and physical well-being of the horses. We invite those who share the same views as we do to board with us.
Our current facility consists of a large bank barn with six stalls,  five pastures with two main pastures with run-instack room, 80x100 outdoor arena, and round pen.
Contact Riana Barrington if you would like to learn more or if you'd like to inquire about availability.
Board- $350.00 No extra fees for handling during vet/hoof trims, supplements. Etc. De-worming included.

Turnout- Horses are turned out most of the time on pasture. There is access to run-ins for resting and shade.
If there is very undesirable weather, then some horses may be brought inside. This may include long periods of rain, snow, thunderstorms, wind, etc. During the summer horses are brought in during the hottest hours of the day and overnight during extreme cold in the winter. Otherwise we give them every opportunity to be out grazing, moving, and bonding with their herd mates, as they are meant to do. Geldings and Mares are kept in separate pastures only.

Feeding- We feed quality grain( Southern States Legends) and focus more on forage such as hay and pasture.  Grass/Timothy Hay and/or pasture is always provided to keep digestion regular. Salt/Mineral Blocks are also provided in pastures. Horses eat most hours of the day and we give them the opportunity to do this to help body and mind.

Hooves and Hair- At Barrington Stables we only keep horses barefoot. This is slowly becoming more popular and we find that it is important ofr horse owners to not just follow a trend or tradition, but to educate themselves as to why this is more beneficial than shoes. More and more pleasure and performance horses are being found to do best when allowed to use the feet that God gave them. Going barefoot is not something that is done overnight and may take some time and commitment of the horse owner. Barefoot trimming is provided by our Equine Podiatrist, Brenda Guillory, DAEP and graduate of the Institute of Equine Podiatry. She has helped many horse owners achieve balance and good hoof health in their horses. We try to maintain a good environment in the pastures to help wear hooves and stimulate growth. High traffic areas such as gates, water troughs and run-ins are lined with stone. This also creates good drainage of water and helps keep mud at bay.

In the winter season we let our horses grow their winter coats and allow them to use them without the hindrance of regular blanketing. Why? Horses grow special winter fur, just like other animals, that has a purpose. Short fluffy undercoat helps seal in warmth while the top coat is long and sealed with oils that helps repel moisture very well. Horses do better in the winter than humans do and with a winter coat they are quite comfortable until temperatures dip below zero degrees fahrenheit. Sometimes we will blanket with waterproof medium-light weight blankets if horses are kept inside for a lenghty period of time and need to be turned out into any elements that are very cold and wet. This is so that the horses can stay dry, and the lighter weight blanket doesn't hinder the performance of their coats. Horses are very good at thermoregulating and we try not to hinder thier performance as much as possible. We love our horses but we do not baby them as it seems to cause more harm than good!
